The South Hartford Conveyance and Storage Tunnel (SHCST) is a four-mile long deep rock tunnel to be constructed to convey and store wastewater from portions of south Hartford and West Hartford. This will minimize sewer overflows into the local waterways, the Connecticut River and Long Island Sound during major storm events. The project is one of the largest infrastructure components of the MDC’s Clean Water Project to improve water quality in the area.
Construction is expected to take place between 2016 and 2022.
The North Tunnel is the last improvement of the Clean Water Project and is currently being assessed as part of Phase III of the project.
